Life with food allergies or even just a minor intolerance to a certain ingredient can be a real hassle. Whether it is due to an actual higher prevalence, or simply that we understand and identify allergies now, it does seem more people (especially children) suffer from them these days. These allergies range from life threatening to uncomfortable, but obviously all are to be taken seriously. In particular, there are eight foods that make up the bulk of food allergies. They are known by the name The Big Eight.
The eight most common allergy foods:
- eggs
- fish
- milk
- tree nuts
- peanuts
- shellfish (including shrimp, mussels, and crab)
- soy
- wheat
Luckily, my daughter does not have any serious allergies. She does have an adverse reaction to some preservatives though, so I do need to pay attention to what she is given. I am very thankful that her intolerance is not an actual food group, and her life is not in danger if a mistake is made. Many parents are not so fortunate. They have to worry each and every day if their child will have a life threatening reaction and whether they will be able to save them in time if it happens.
I was recently asked to try out a new frozen treat from a sponsor called Perfectly Free™, and share my thoughts with you. This frozen treat product takes some of the stress out of the Big 8 Food Allergens. Parents and kids can enjoy Perfectly Free™ frozen treats without worry, since these treats are; dairy-free, soy-free, wheat-free, peanut-free, egg-free, fish-free, shellfish-free, and tree nut-free.
The frozen treats have a soft outer later and a frosty coconut cream center. They are small; a perfect size for kids or when you just want a little something sweet. Each serving is only 25-35 calories (and pretty satisfying), so if you want a second, go ahead.
They are currently available in four varieties:
- Perfectly Free™ Cocoa & Vanilla
- Perfectly Free™ Salted Caramel & Vanilla
- Perfectly Free™ Cherry & Vanilla
- Perfectly Free™ Blueberry & Vanilla
Why not pick some up at your local grocer? Even if no one in your immediate family has an allergy, they would be perfect to have on hand as the warmer months come around. Think how happy a visiting child with an allergy will be to be able to enjoy a treat with everyone else.
