How to make Three Ingredient Peanut Butter Cookies
Let's make a batch of these super easy homemade peanut butter cookies! Follow along here for step-by-step instructions with pictures, or jump down to the printable recipe card.
The recipe makes 2 dozen cookies.
Prep Time: 15 mins Baking Time: 10 mins
Cookie Dough Ingredients:
Here is everything you need to make the three ingredient cookies.
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl combine the peanut butter, sugar and egg. Mix well, until the dough comes together and can be formed into a ball.
Divide the dough into 24 pieces and roll the dough into balls. Place the dough balls on an ungreased baking sheet, at least 1 inch apart.
Use a fork to press onto the top of each dough ball to slightly flatten and leave the imprint of the fork. Turn the fork 90 degrees and make a second imprint. The fork marks create the classic peanut butter cookie criss-cross pattern on top.
Place the cookies in preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes until set and edges are golden brown.
Cool on a wire cooling rack before serving.
Type of Peanut Butter
For best results select a no stir peanut butter, natural peanut butter where the oil separates does not work as well.
Either smooth peanut butter or crunchy peanut butter is fine. Cashew butter and almond butter are also options. Just look for ones with minimal separation or the cookies will be too crumbly.
Variations on the Recipe
With a recipe as basic as this one, there is always room for add-ins. Here are a few popular ones:
- Chocolate chips are probably the most popular addition to these cookies. See my flourless peanut butter chocolate chip cookies.
- Some like to add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the cookies.
- For those that are diabetic or following a low carb dietary plan, swap out the cup of sugar for a zero calorie measures like sugar substitute.
Store Cookies
While these 3 ingredient cookies are soft and delicious when freshly baked, it it even more important than with traditional cookies to store these flourless cookies in an airtight container to avoid them drying out and getting dry and crumbly.
The cookies are good up to 3 days in airtight container at room temperature. For longer storage seal in freezer bags and freeze for up to 3 months.
