Make your own homemade Chick-fil-a sauce with this easy recipe. The famous dipping sauce is basically a blend of honey mustard salad dressing and barbecue sauce. The recipe guides you toward the right flavor balance using a sweet BBQ sauce and mayo as a base.
With this homemade dipping sauce recipe, soon you will be gleefully dunking your chicken nuggets, tater tots and waffle fries in the classic Chick-fil-a sauce at home on a Sunday!
Chick-fil-a is my daughter's absolute favorite restaurant, so we go there pretty often. Like most regulars I have a small stash of my favorite Chick-fil-a dipping sauces, but those little sauce tubs only go so far. It is nicer to make a batch of homemade copycat sauce and serve it with a meal than fussing with them.
How to Make Chick-Fil-A Sauce at Home
Here is how to make copycat chick fil a sauce at home. It is easy to do.
The recipe makes 6 servings
Prep: 5 minutes| Cook Time: 0 minutes | Total Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients for Chick Fil A sauce:
Here is everything you need to prepare the delicious creamy sauce.
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 2 teaspoons honey flavor BBQ sauce (Preferably a sweet BBQ sauce like Sweet Baby Rays)
- ½ teaspoon liquid smoke*
- ½ teaspoon paprika*
- ⅛ teaspoon onion powder
- ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
- Pinch of sea salt
*feel free to swap both of these for smoked paprika if you have it
Directions:
Add all sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
Whisk thoroughly until the sauce is smooth.
While it is best to let the DIY Chick-fil-a sauce rest for at least one hour first, you can serve immediately with french fries, sweet potato fries, chicken tenders or a wide array of other foods if you can't wait.
The sweetness and savory flavor of the copycat Chick-fil-a sauce makes it very versatile like Yum Yum Sauce, so you may want to make a double batch and save some for later. Try the tangy sauce on a turkey or chicken sandwich for a taste boost or drizzle some on a stir fry or quesadilla.
Adjusting Flavor
As there is variation in the flavor of various barbecue sauces you may find the need to sweeten the finished sauce with a drizzle of honey or add a touch of sour with some lemon juice, distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar. When doing so start with just a ½ teaspoon and only add more if needed.
A creamy honey mustard sauce/dressing can stand in for the first 3 ingredients if you prefer, but be mindful to make sure it is indeed creamy or you will need to supplement mayo.
Storing the Copycat Chick Fil A Sauce
Store homemade chick fil a sauce or leftovers in an airtight container or jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks
While Dijon or spicy brown mustard may create a pleasing sauce, they are a little pungent when trying to make sauce taste match to the Chick fil a original.
