The Shark Bite drink is a relatively easy cocktail to make. It's a great mixed drink to make at a beach or pool party. Just think how fun these shark themed alcoholic drinks would be to serve on Shark Week!
Shark Bite Drink
The Shark Bite drink looks like the ocean with blood in the water, hence it's name. While the cocktail is often made with spiced rum, light rum, sour mix and blue curacao, I went with an equally popular simpler version here. Alternate methods will be found in recipe card notes section.

How to make a Shark Bite cocktail
Here is a visual guide to making these shark themed cocktails. I show preparation on the rocks, but it can just as easily be made in a cocktail shaker and strained into a martini glass. Full recipe with variations and serving methods can be found below on the printable recipe card.
The ingredients of the drink are spiced rum, blue curacao, and sour mix. The blood effect is created with a few drops of grenadine (or a splash for a real blood bath...lol).
Some versions split the rum into equal parts spiced and light rum.
Start with 1 ½ ounces of spiced rum. Pour into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
Add ¾ ounce of blue curacao.
Top with 3 ounces of sour mix.
I find when served on the rocks you will need a small splash of grenadine (shown here and in short video). If serving straight up, a few drops will create enough of the blood in the water effect.
Shark Bite Drink Recipe
- Start with fresh ice in a rocks glass or in a cocktail shaker if you prefer to serve straight up in a martini glass.
- Pour the rum over the ice
- Add blue curacao.
- Top off the glass with 3 ounces of sour mix.
- Finish with a splash of grenadine and garnish if you like. If serving straight up, stain into martini glass and add a few drops of grenadine.
