This Mandarin Orange Salsa Recipe stemmed from my local grocer having large bags of sweet seedless Mandarin oranges on sale this week. Most were devoured as is, but by the second bag, I started experimenting a bit. This simple recipe was my favorite result & it is a terrific way to add brightness to a winter plate.
Mandarin Orange Salsa is a great topping for seafood, especially grilled fish or shrimp. It has some heat to it, but the Asian flavors and sweetness of the Mandarin oranges keeps the fire in check somewhat. It is quite quick to prepare so I suggest making the salsa as needed.
- 1 cup seedless Mandarin oranges peeled & chopped*
- 1/2 tbs finely chopped Jalapeno
- 2 tsp. freshly chopped cilantro
- 1 tsp. rice wine vinegar
- 1 tsp. fresh lime juice
- 1/8 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp sesame oil
- Kosher salt to taste
- Prep ingredients, then mix & serve.
*If pithy or not seedless supreme the oranges (I just removed any excess pith & a few tougher membranes)
Sodium based on 1/4 tsp used, number will varying based on preference.
