Baked oatmeal is a nutritious healthy breakfast option that both adults and kids love. It's easy to prepare and your home will smell like heaven while it's baking!
The baked apple oats are a great meal prep choice, especially since they firm up as they sit. Prepare the oats a day before and serve slices for a grab and go breakfast bar, toddler lunch or after school snacks.

Ingredients for Apple Baked Oatmeal:
Here is every you will need to make the baked oatmeal with apples.
- 2 cups old fashioned rolled oats (certified gluten free if necessary)
- 1.5 teaspoons cinnamon*
- ⅛ teaspoon allspice*
- ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg*
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ sea salt
- 2 cups milk of choice dairy free, such as oat milk or unsweetened almond milk or simply use regular milk if you prefer (Make your own homemade almond milk or naturally sweetened oat milk)
- ½ cup unsweetened applesauce (Make your own Applesauce in an Instant pot)
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup apples, diced and peeled (divided)
- ½ cup chopped pecans
*or use 2 teaspoons on my homemade apple pie spice in place of these spices.
Directions:
First preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and grease an 8x8 inch baking dish and set aside. Yes, you can coat the interior of the casserole dish with non stick cooking spray if you prefer.
In a large mixing bowl, add oats, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, baking powder, salt, milk, applesauce, maple syrup, vanilla extract and ¾ cup of the diced apples.
Mix well until ingredients are evenly distributed.
Transfer mixture into prepared baking dish and top with remaining cup of diced apple.
Sprinkle on ½ cup chopped pecans.
Bake in preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool for 10 minutes before slicing to serve warm.
Top with freshly sliced apple and chopped nuts as shown or drizzle maple syrup or honey on the oats when serving. Whipped cream is also a delicious garnish for these baked oats.
Storage
Once the Baked apple oatmeal is cool. Cover the dish with plastic wrap or place slices in an airtight container.
The baked oats will last in the fridge for 3-4 days. You can also freeze baked oatmeal for up to 3 months.
Variations
Here are a few additions or simple swaps to try while making this baked apple cinnamon oatmeal.
- If you prefer a sweeter baked oats, increase the measure of maple syrup to ⅓ of a cup.
- Add raisins or dried cranberries to the oatmeal mixture before baking.
- Toss in a handful or two of frozen berries for a burst of flavor and added antioxidants.
- A couple tablespoons of flax or chia seeds added to the recipe is a great way to add omega-3 fats to your family's diet.

Ingredients

- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ sea salt
- 2 cups milk of choice dairy free, such as almond milk or regular
- ½ cup unsweetened applesauce

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup apple diced and peeled (divided)
- ½ cup chopped pecans or chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease an 8x8” baking dish and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, add oats, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, baking powder, salt, milk, applesauce, maple syrup, vanilla extract and ¾ cup of the diced apple. Mix until ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Transfer mixture into prepared baking dish and top with remaining cup of diced apple and ½ cup chopped pecans.
- Bake in preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center pulls out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
