Variations on the Recipe
Although the slow cooker recipe is simple, there are a few changes you may prefer and still have great results.
- The cream of chicken soup can be swapped out for a can of cream of mushroom soup or golden mushroom soup.
- If you have boneless skinless chicken thighs, they will work just fine in the recipe and are a budget-friendly option.
- Shred chicken with two forks if you like. It will give the effect of there being more meat.
- Try flavored cream cheese in the dish, it will add even more delicious flavor to the finished dish.
- If your family are Ranch fanatics, try it with a packet of Ranch dressing mix. This will change the flavor quite a bit, but is still scrumptious. This is similar in flavor to my Crockpot Crack Chicken Recipe.
- Add sliced mushrooms to the dish, keep in mind though that the fresh mushrooms may result in a thin sauce. If this happens, add a little more cream cheese to help thicken it up.
- Big fan of garlic? Add 2 minced garlic cloves or a ½ teaspoon of garlic powder to the recipe.
- Instead of chicken, make the recipe with boneless pork chops.
Serving
As the name denotes, angel chicken is typically served over a bed of angel hair pasta, but is just as tasty over another pasta, mashed potatoes or rice. You could even serve it over grilled or toasted bread slices.
For a balanced meal add a vegetable side dish such a mixed sauteed vegetables, green beans, baked asparagus or a green salad. Perhaps some simple brownies with chocolate chips, simplified Mexican Fried Ice Cream or a no bake Million Dollar Pie for dessert.
Storing
Store leftovers in an airtight container, promptly after they have cooled to room temperature. The angel chicken will last in the fridge for 3-4 days. For longer term storage freeze the leftover chicken for up to 3 months.

This is my family's favorite crockpot chicken recipe. The only change I make is to shred the chicken before scooping it over pasta.
