In the past few years, many of us have gotten away from using soy as a part of our regular diet. For me, I found other options mostly in order to avoid GMOs. The thing is, soy was the start of the plant based milk product evolution for a reason. Soy is among the few complete plant-based proteins and creates a rich tasting milk. Edamame (soy beans) are also a great low-fat way to add protein to salads, pasta dishes, etc.
The great news is Silk is certified GMO free these days. I can now feel good about making my milkshakes and smoothies with soy again. This low fat, cholesterol free, plant based protein source is a terrific for light meals and snacks to stave off hunger while trying to reduce my weight.
This Light Strawberry Soy Milkshake tallies in at just 110 calories, and takes just a couple minutes to make (easy recipe included below). The beverage is a low-calorie pick-me-up that works great as quick mini-meal to start the day or afternoon snack. It boasts 7 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber, nearly half the recommended daily allotment of calcium and lots of vitamin C from the strawberries.
If you are on-the-go or simply want something a bit thicker in texture, Silk also just started making a dairy-free yogurt alternative, made with soy. It has 130 calories and 6 grams of protein. Add a little fresh fruit or a scoop of granola and make it a meal.
Whether stir-frying some GMO-free tofu, adding edamame to your salad, grabbing a Silk non-dairy yogurt alternative or making this simple and delicious milkshake, soy is a great addition to any weight loss or smart daily menu plan.Print
