I wanted a nice fresh creamy homemade garlic ranch dressing for a salad I've been working on. The requirements were for the consistency to be thick enough to use in a sandwich or wrap without being too drippy, yet still nice on a variety salads. I also didn't want it to be overpowering.
This Roasted Garlic Ranch Recipe with parmesan cheese was the result. The dressing teamed wonderfully with the Grilled Chicken & Sweet Corn Salad it was created for.
Roasted Garlic for Ranch Dressing
I roasted the garlic for this ranch dressing rather than using raw garlic, since it provides a smoother garlic flavor.
Here i roasted the garlic cloves on the grill, since I was grilling other foods at the time anyway. Of course, you could roast the garlic in the oven if you prefer.
In either case, I peeled the garlic cloves (5) and placed them on foil, drizzled with just a little olive oil, and closed up the foil like a pouch.
Pop it in a 425 degree oven or on med heat grill and the garlic should be roasted in 15-20 minutes.

- If you love a bold garlic flavor, simply add an extra clove or two of garlic, or try mixing in a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder for extra depth.
- For a tangy twist, a splash of lemon juice or white vinegar can brighten up the dressing.
For a lighter version, use low fat or fat-free mayonnaise and sour cream.
Garlic ranch dressing is naturally vegetarian and gluten-free.
Add Cajun seasoning or cayenne pepper for a spicy kick to the dressing.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
Storing and Reusing
To keep your homemade ranch dressing tasting its best, proper storage is key. After making your dressing, transfer it to an airtight container like a glass jar or a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid—and store it in the refrigerator. Homemade ranch dressing will stay fresh for up to a week when kept cold, but for the best flavor and texture, try to use it within a few days. Before serving, give the dressing a good stir to blend any separated ingredients and revive that creamy consistency. If you want to refresh the flavor, add a sprinkle of fresh herbs or a dash of black pepper. While you can freeze ranch dressing in small portions, keep in mind that the texture may change slightly after thawing, so it’s best to make just what you’ll use. With the right storage, your homemade ranch will always be ready to add a burst of flavor to salads, dips, and more.

This looks so yummy. I have to confess I am not a big Ranch fan and I could easily see this a alternative that the Ranch fans would also enjoy.

What a timely recipe. I am trying to create a California blend dish and didn't have the ranch dressing it called for and didn't have a clue how to make my own. Thanks so much for sharing.

That's a great swap. I like to add fresh dill sometimes too, since it is a standard in buttermilk ranch dressing anyway.
